Internship Interim Freshman Year
During interim week I did internships. I interned with Gerry Michels for being an artist, Kaleelah Austin for being a hair stylist.
My day with Gerry made me realize that it takes a lot of inspiration, time and patience to be artist. I wrote out 10 questions to ask Gerry about being an artist and by the end, half of my questions had been turned into different questions with very vague answers. Then we made a mixture that has been around for centuries. After that I drew a picture then painted it.
My day with Kaleelah made my realize that you have to suck up to your costumers and pretend like you care, and that it also takes a lot of experience and practice because if you mess up you don’t get paid. While I was at her salon I organized shelf things, I shampooed hair and I watched her do a lot of hair. That is what I did for interim.
Over all it was worth while and it looks good to do internships when you are trying to get in to school for that profession but I think next interim I will go on a trip because it would be more fun.

day 1
january 25th
Today we landed in San Juan Puerto Rico.Im awe struck buy its beauty. The buildings looked almost abandoned are covered in intricate graffiti. the flowers are so bright and vivid and the air is warm and moist. The wind is unlike the Colorado wind, it's more of a cool ocean breeze. The ocean is a deep teal with rhythmic waves that get bigger the farther out you look. There are so many different types of trees and bushes, so many different types of palm trees it amazes me. There are sukoya and strange pink bushes. So far i've only had one meal here which was mahui mahui that tastes so fresh it easily could have been caught that day. For the record, you haven't tasted a real pina colada until you've been to Puerto Rico.
Day 2
January 26th
Today we boarded the ship. It's amazing, it is so huge! longer that a football field and 14 stories above sea level. there are buffets, karaoke bars, piano bars, dance clubs, pools, water slides, ballrooms, live music, cigar bars and so much more. As you enter the lobby area it's a array of mixed culture. there are 3D tiles 2x2 with faces like abe Lincon, george washington, marie antoinette, etc. There is art work on the walls on every floor, in the buffet area there is a 50 foot tile mural of rosie the riveter and a bunch of smaller 50's style girls/ women's rights in the workforce art pieces. we did not dine today, we ate at the buffet, there was a wide variety of food but all mainly mediocre american food .There were people from all over the world, especially the crew members. I saw a stunning pin-up girl from Australia. Tomorrow we dock at St. Thomas and go under water scootering.
Day 3
January 27th
We woke up and went to breakfast in the washington dining room, and they took a really long time dinning us. There lox and bagel was really good though. After breakfast was got off the ship and walked around St. Thomas. It looks very similar to San Juan but the mountains were closer to the dock, and they were more lush and green. There were people dressed in very colorful clothing. There were many large boats and yachts at the port we pulled into. After walking around and looking at the shops/culture/flowers we went back to the ship to plan for the excursion. we boarded a smaller boat and traveled about 20 min from port. the crew and captain were extremely funny and made us laugh a lot. Once we got there they lowered the "boss" scooters into the water and split everyone on the boats into two groups. i was picked in the first group to go and the second group went snorkeling while they waited. so how the shooter worked was you had to go head first into the globe which had no water in it, then you sat down and put your feet in the sturm things. you did this whole process under water. The second i put my head under water, the second i put my head in the globe i felt like i couldn't breathe even though there was oxygen. i pulled my head out right away. I retried this process about 4 times before giving up and having a panic/anxiety/claustrophobia attack. i got back on the boat after that. Dad, jane, and jordan had a great time though,i guess they saw a old shipwreck about thirty feet under. After they got back on the boat we all went snorkeling and saw so many amazing beautiful fish. one of them was black with electric blue polka dots, there were fish that looked like little sword fish, i saw angel fish, and dori fish. then we went back to the ship and had dinner. i tried shark and it was a little weird.
day 4
January 28th
Today was the "day at sea" it was a whole day on ship . It was pretty boring in the morning but for dinner i tried alligator!!! it tasted like chicken. then we went to the theater and saw a really awesome 50's style musical that had the stunning pinup girl i saw in it. then we hung out at the piano bar till about 1 o'clock drinking mojitos. that was my day at sea.
Day 5
January 29th
today we went to Barbados. It was my favorite place so far. The people all seemed so happy and friendly, very tranquil. we got off the ship around 9ish and walked around till about 12:30. the buildings were falling apart but they still looked amazing and beautiful with vines growing out of them. the flowers were so gorgeous. the shopping there was really really cool and inexpensive. taking in the culture of Barbados was a extraordinary experience. then we went back to the ship ate lunch then went to our excursion. this excursion was snorkeling with sea turtles. they are the most amazing majestic creatures i've ever seen. they are my new favorite animal for sure. After swimming with the sea turtles we walked along the beach the sand felt like silk and everyone one the beach kept calling me a rasta. there was this guy walking around putting a monkey on people!
Day 6
January 30th
Today we were in st. kitts. It seemed higher quality than Barbados but for some reason that made me like it less. the shopping was a lot better though, they had much more variety. i bought too much stuff… the excursion was snorkeling at the grand pitons. the fish were bright florescent blues and yellows, it was really really cool. when i got back on shore i kept getting hit on, it felt awkward. i talked to some of the locals about the island and the lifestyle accompanying it. and i talked to some guy about dreads. the sand on that beach was rocky and grainy. after we boarded the ship again when went to the formal dinner, i tried snail (escargot) and it was horrible.
Day 7
today we were in st. maarten. this was a very interesting island. the island is split in half, one side is Dutch and the other French. the dutch side was more the party side. laid back and tranquil. you can drive and drive and there are no speed limits. the french is a little more strict, kind of like home but i heard the food on the french side was amazing. today the excursion was horseback riding. we went in small groups, it was just the guide and my family. i saw all sorts of lizards and hermit crabs. at the end of the tour you rode the horse into the ocean, which was really weird, being on a horses back while it swims.. then we got banana jam and spreaded dillons ashes and got back on the ship
